Job summary

City of Canterbury Bankstown is seeking a permanent, full-time Team Leader Payroll to lead Council’s payroll function and own end-to-end processing, systems, and service delivery. You will ensure accurate, compliant payroll practices across the organisation and provide trusted advice to stakeholders.

You’ll lead and develop a payroll team, manage reconciliations and audits, and drive continuous improvement while partnering with external advisers and system providers.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, Finance or related discipline or equivalent experience leading payroll.
• Experience managing end-to-end payroll in a medium to large organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Award interpretation, superannuation, PAYG, STP and taxation requirements.
• Proven experience leading and developing a payroll team.
• Understanding of payroll deadlines, accuracy controls, reconciliations and audit requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop the Payroll team and foster a positive environment.
• Oversee end-to-end payroll operations with accuracy, compliance and high service levels.
• Develop and maintain payroll policies in line with legislation and Council standards.
• Provide expert payroll and systems advice ensuring compliance with requirements.
• Coordinate payroll reconciliations, audits and end-of-year processes.
• Drive continuous improvement across payroll systems, processes and service delivery.
• Oversee payroll system maintenance and collaboration with stakeholders, vendors and specialists.
• Identify training needs and deliver payroll-related training.
