Job summary

Department of Customer Service in NSW is seeking a Payroll Support Officer for Payroll Production and Transformation. The role supports accurate payroll processing, interpreting awards and policies, and delivering a positive service experience across Parramatta, Orange and Goulburn offices in a hybrid setup.

The successful candidate will have payroll experience in medium to large organisations, strong attention to detail and excellent communication, with in-office presence 2–3 days per week as

  • Participate in quality assurance to improve payroll accuracy.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and report risks.

Payroll Support Officer, Payroll Production and Transformation - Please provide your location of choice in your application

Clerk Grade:3/4

Salary Range: $87,199 - $95,482 plus superannuation and leave loading

Employment Type: Full-Time, Ongoing

Location: Parramatta, Orange and Goulburn - Hybrid opportunity. I n-office requirement 2-3 days a week as a minimum, which could be subject to change based on applicable DCS workplace policies.

Government Shared Services (GSS) is a new division in DCS that is leading the way in streamlining processes and transactional shared services to allow our people to better focus on their customers and delivering their services.

We are developing and delivering a roadmap to leverage technology, streamline processes, replace legacy systems and deliver a consistent experience to more than 100+ agencies across 8 NSW Government Departments.

What you will do
  • Process payroll transactions accurately and on time in line with awards, legislation, policies and audit requirements.
  • Interpret employment conditions, awards, legislation and policies to resolve payroll matters or elevate complex issues.
  • Respond to payroll enquiries and service requests, delivering a positive customer experience.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities to improve payroll accuracy and service outcomes.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to new ways of working.
  • Identify and report risks to support compliance and service excellence.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve team and organisational objectives.
About You

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong capabilities in:

  • Experience in payroll processing within a medium to large organisational environment.
  • Knowledge of payroll transactions.
  • The ability to interpret awards, employment conditions, legislation and policies.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll matters clearly and professionally.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence using payroll, ERP and records management systems
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Please note that assessments will be conducted for this role. This involves submitting your application for review, an interview, workplace assessment and reference checks.

Salary Grade 3/4, with the base salary for this role startingat 87,199 base plus superannuation.
