Job summary

NSW Department of Customer Service is seeking a Payroll Support Officer to contribute to Payroll Production and Transformation. Hybrid work with in-office requirements 2-3 days weekly; base salary $87,199–$95,482 plus superannuation.

Location options include Parramatta, Orange and Goulburn, with ongoing full-time employment and a focus on accurate payroll processing and policy interpretation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in payroll processing within a medium to large organisational environment.
  • Knowledge of payroll transactions and awards, legislation, and policies.
  • Ability to interpret employment conditions and resolve payroll issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and prioritisation in a fast-paced setting.
  • Confidence using payroll, ERP, and records management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll transactions accurately and on time in line with awards, legislation, policies and audit requirements.
  • Interpret employment conditions, awards, legislation and policies to resolve payroll matters or elevate complex issues.
  • Respond to payroll enquiries and service requests, delivering a positive customer experience.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities to improve payroll accuracy and service outcomes.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to new ways of working.
  • Identify and report risks to support compliance and service excellence.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve team and organisational objectives.

Payroll Support Officer, Payroll Production and Transformation - Please provide your location of choice in your application

  • Salary Range: $87,199 - $95,482
  • plus superannuation and leave loading
  • Employment Type: Full-Time, Ongoing
  • Location: Parramatta, Orange and Goulburn - Hybrid opportunity. In-office requirement 2-3 days a week as a minimum, which could be subject to change based on applicable DCS workplace policies.

What you will do

About You

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong capabilities in:

  • Experience in payroll processing within a medium to large organisational environment.
  • Knowledge of payroll transactions.
  • The ability to interpret awards, employment conditions, legislation and policies.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll matters clearly and professionally.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence using payroll, ERP and records management systems.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
What we need from you

Salary Grade 3/4, with the base salary for this role starting at 87,199 base plus superannuation.
