Job summary

NSW Government in Sydney is seeking a contract Payroll Specialist to support a large onboarding program. You will ensure timely fortnightly payroll processing, validate data, reconcile figures, and coordinate with shared services to resolve payroll queries.

Immediate start through Christmas with exposure to SAP Payroll and HRIS platforms. Strong attention to detail and collaboration with HR, Finance and payroll teams are essential for success.

Qualifications

• End-to-end payroll experience, ideally within government/public sector.

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in payroll processing.
• Experience with SAP Payroll; exposure to Workday is highly regarded.

Support a large-scale workforce onboarding program

NSW Government | start ASAP | based in Ultimo

$50 – 70 per hour + super (depending on experience)

This isn’t your typical government role. Joining a respected public sector organisation undergoing significant transformation, you will play a key role in maintaining payroll accuracy while supporting the onboarding of a large number of new employees.

Working closely with the Payroll and HR teams, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of fortnightly payroll, ensuring payroll data is validated, reconciled and submitted correctly through a shared services model. This is an immediate-start contract opportunity running through to Christmas, offering the chance to contribute to a critical workforce initiative.

To be successful, you will bring demonstrated end-to-end payroll experience, ideally within a government or public sector environment. You will have strong payroll reconciliation skills, hands‑on experience with SAP Payroll, and exposure to HRIS platforms and payroll system integrations. Experience with Workday will be highly regarded. Most importantly, you will possess exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to identify discrepancies, maintain high levels of data accuracy and ensure payroll is processed correctly every cycle. Strong problem‑solving skills, sound judgement and the ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders across HR, finance and shared services will set you apart.
