Job summary

Perigon Group is supporting a well-known retail client in Sydney to hire an experienced Payroll Specialist for an initial 12-month contract. The role offers hybrid flexibility (2-3 days in North Sydney) with a salary range of AUD 90k–AUD 100k plus super.

You will manage payroll operations during a critical transition, covering superannuation, STP, payroll tax and payroll accounting, liaising with Finance, P&C and the ATO to ensure compliant processing and reporting.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation (Super Guarantee, STP, payroll tax).
• Hands-on experience with SAP HR/Payroll or similar large payroll system.
• Strong GL and balance sheet reconciliation experience.
• Advanced Excel skills with strong analytical mindset.
• Experience interpreting awards and enterprise agreements.

Responsibilities

• Process and reconcile superannuation payments and STP submissions.
• Prepare and lodge payroll tax returns across multiple jurisdictions.
• Validate payroll GL reports and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Reconcile payroll and finance system interfaces.
• Investigate and resolve payroll reporting discrepancies.
• Support month-end and year-end payroll accounting.
• Assist with payroll process improvements during the transition.

The Role:

Due to a recent acquisition, this well-known retail business is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join the team on an initial 12-month contract. You will play a key role in keeping payroll operations running smoothly throughout an important period of transition and change.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical payroll knowledge, with responsibility across superannuation, STP, payroll tax and payroll accounting. You will work closely with Finance, P&C and external bodies including the ATO to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
