Job summary

MUJI Australia is seeking a Part-Time Payroll Administrator to join the Store Support Service team. You will deliver accurate end-to-end payroll for a multi-site environment while ensuring compliance with Australian payroll legislation and awards.

The role focuses on processing payroll for 30.4 hours per week, with pro-rata salary guidance provided. You will work with Kronos (UKG) and ELMO, handle variations, onboarding, and payroll reconciliations, and support payroll audits.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years Australian payroll experience in multi-site environments.
• Understanding of payroll legislation, superannuation, tax, NES and STP.
• End-to-end payroll processing with attention to accuracy.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with payroll systems.

Responsibilities

• Process and administer payroll accurately and on time under Australian law.
• Maintain payroll records, timesheets, leave balances in HRIS systems (Kronos UKG, ELMO).
• Handle onboarding, variations, terminations, reconciliations, reporting.
• Ensure compliance with Fair Work Act, NES and General Retail Award.
• Respond to payroll enquiries from staff and managers; support audits.
• Identify process improvements to boost efficiency.

This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional to broaden their skills in a supportive retail environment while gaining exposure to HR systems, award interpretation, compliance, and payroll process improvement. As a Part-Time Payroll Administrator (30.4 hours or 4 days per week), you will be responsible for delivering accurate end-to-end payroll administration while ensuring compliance with Australian payroll legislation, employment standards, and the General Retail Industry Award. Your responsibilities will include:

• Process and administer payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with all legislatives, taxation, superannuation, and award requirements
• Maintain employee payroll records, timesheets, leave balances, and personnel data within HRIS and payroll systems, including Kronos (UKG) and ELMO
• Manage payroll-related activities including onboarding, employee variations, terminations, payroll reconciliations, and reporting
• Interpret and apply the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards (NES), and General Retail Industry Award provisions to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance
• Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers, providing professional and timely support
• Assist with payroll audits, month-end reporting, STP reporting, and payroll compliance activities
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and system efficiencies
• Support HR administration activities as required, with payroll remaining the primary focus of the role

Hours and Remuneration

This is a part-time position which requires 30.4 hours per week spread over 4-days. The full-time equivalent salary is $75,000 to $80,000, and the pro-rata salary based on the above hours is $60,000 to $64,000.

Desired Skills and Experience

We are seeking a payroll professional who is ready to build on their existing experience and continue developing their career.

• 2-3 years of Australian payroll experience, ideally within retail, hospitality, or another multi-site workforce environment
• Sound understanding of payroll legislation, superannuation, taxation, leave entitlements, and Single Touch Payroll (STP) requirements
• Exposure to the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards (NES), and modern awards, particularly the General Retail Industry Award, would be highly
• Demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing, with strong numerical aptitude and the ability to perform accurate payroll calculations in a fast paced environment
• High level of attention to detail and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience using payroll, HRIS, or workforce management systems such as ELMO, Kronos (UKG), or similar platforms
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to respond to employee and manager payroll enquiries
• A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn, improve processes, and contribute to a growing business
• Qualifications in Payroll, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field are desirable
