Job summary

Appreciating Talent is seeking a Junior Payroll Officer to join our team in Sydney. You will be exposed to payroll processing and will grow your payroll knowledge in a supportive environment.

The role suits someone with payroll exposure who is organised, detail-focused and keen to learn, with a real interest in developing payroll skills. Onsite parking and employee benefits are available.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a payroll or payroll administration role.
• Exposure to processing payroll in an end-to-end environment.
• Basic understanding of Australian payroll legislation (PAYG, superannuation, Fair Work).
• Experience with payroll systems; Employment Hero is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Comfortable with numbers and payroll data.
• Good Excel skills and spreadsheet confidence.
• Ability to assist with payroll reconciliations and data checks.
• Strong communication and customer-focused responses to employee queries.
• Organised and able to meet payroll deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Process and manage payroll accurately and on time.
• Support end-to-end payroll activities and reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with Australian payroll laws and policies.
• Utilise payroll software (e.g., Employment Hero) effectively.
• Assist payroll team with data checks and reports.

You’ll ideally have some payroll experience and be looking to take the next step in your career. This could be a great opportunity for someone who has had exposure to payroll processing and is keen to continue building their knowledge in a supportive team environment.
We’re looking for someone who is organised, detail-focused and eager to learn, with a genuine interest in developing their payroll skills.

• Previous experience in a payroll or payroll administration role
• Exposure to processing payroll, ideally in an end-to-end environment
• Basic understanding of Australian payroll legislation, including PAYG, superannuation and Fair Work
• Experience with payroll systems; Employment Hero experience would be highly regarded
• Strong attention to detail and a focus on accuracy
• Comfortable working with numbers and payroll data
• Good Excel skills and confidence working with spreadsheets
• Ability to assist with payroll reconciliations and checking payroll data
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach when responding to employee queries
• Highly organised and able to meet payroll deadlines and cut-off times
• Someone who is keen to learn, develop and grow their payroll career
• Payroll qualification or relevant study would be advantageous but is not essential
