Job summary

Queensland State Government department on the Gold Coast is seeking an experienced Project Costing Officer – Payroll to join a busy team. The role is a long-term contract from now through to June 2027, offering full-time hours and an hourly rate of $53–$59 per hour plus Super.

You will ensure employees and labour hire contractors are paid accurately and on time while supporting broader project costing and finance functions.

Qualifications

• Experience in payroll processing for wages, overtime, allowances and entitlements.
• Familiar with timekeeping, timesheets and leave processing.
• Ability to maintain accurate payroll records and audit-ready documentation.
• Experience with project costing and finance activities is beneficial.
• Government or complex payroll experience is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Processing and reviewing employee and contractor timesheets and Daily Dissection Sheets.
• Ensuring wages, overtime, allowances and other entitlements are calculated and paid correctly.
• Monitoring outstanding timesheets and following up with employees and managers.
• Processing leave applications, work schedule changes and substitutions.
• Completing payroll reconciliations, reporting and compliance checks.
• Investigating and resolving payroll discrepancies and employee enquiries.
• Maintaining accurate payroll records and documentation for audit purposes.
• Providing payroll advice and guidance to employees and management.
• Supporting payroll compliance reviews and audits.
• Assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable and procurement activities.
• Supporting daily project-related expense accruals and other finance activities as required.

We are currently seeking an experienced Project Costing Officer – Payroll to join a busy Queensland State Government department based on the Gold Coast.
This is a fantastic long-term contract opportunity through to June 2027, offering full-time hours and an attractive hourly rate of $53–$59 per hour + Super.
The role would suit someone with strong payroll experience who enjoys variety and takes pride in accuracy and getting the details right. You will be responsible for ensuring employees and labour hire contractors are paid correctly and on time, while also supporting broader project costing and finance activities.

About You To be successful in this position, you will ideally have previous experience within payroll, project costing, finance administration or a similar high-volume environment.
You will bring:

• Strong payroll processing experience and excellent attention to detail
• Knowledge of awards, allowances, employee entitlements and timekeeping processes
• Experience using payroll or workforce management systems
• Strong reconciliation and data analysis skills
• The ability to identify discrepancies and resolve payroll issues efficiently
• Excellent organisational and record-management skills
• Confident communication skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders
• A high level of discretion when handling confidential employee information
• The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
• Previous Government or complex payroll experience will be highly regarded
