Job summary

Far West Local Health District in Wilcannia NSW is seeking a Patient Transport Officer on a temporary part-time contract. You will provide safe, comfortable transport for patients requiring transfer to health care facilities inside and outside the district and contribute to a frontline, supportive team.

The role requires a current NSW driver's licence with a clean record, HLTAID006/HLTAID007, strong communication and teamwork, and the ability to work in a remote setting with limited resources.

Qualifications

• Current NSW drivers licence with a proven safe driving record.
• Current HLTAID006 and HLTAID007 certificates as minimum qualifications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to write accurate clinical records to health professionals.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to apply Work Health and Safety legislation to non-emergency patient transport.
• Physically capable of transferring patients and moving on/off stretchers or wheelchairs.
• Ability to plan and prioritise duties in high-volume, pressured environments.
• ICT skills for word processing, emails, and documentation.
• Knowledge of challenges of working in remote areas.

• Provide safe, comfortable transport for patients requiring transfer to Health Care facilities or destinations within and external to the District.
• Maintain patient safety and comfort during transfer and monitor needs en route.

Job description

This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro‑ra‑ted to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme. This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

The Wilcannia Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) has a 24-hour 2 bed emergency department and 8 residential aged care beds. Wilcannia MPS has been providing care to the local community for over 140 years.

• Current licence to drive in NSW with a proven safe driving record, verified by a Roads and Maritime Services licence summary prepared within the month prior to applying for the position.
• Current Advanced First Aid Advanced Cardiopulmonary (HLTAID006), Advanced Resuscitation/ CPR (HLTAID007) certificates as minimum qualifications, with ability to successfully complete further mandatory and refresher training as required
• Sound communication skills, including the ability to write accurate clinical records, to communicate effectively and respectfully with health professionals about clinical matters (within the scope of the role) and to provide sensitive customer service to a diverse range of clients.
• Ability work both independently and collaborate effectively with others as a member of a team.
• Ability to accurately identify the ways in which Work Health and Safety legislation and policy applies to non-emergency patient transport. Physically capable of transferring patients, loading, unloading and manoeuvring patients around, on and off stretchers or wheelchairs.
• Ability to accurately plan and prioritise allocated responsibilities to effectively manage daily workloads and perform in high volume and pressured environments.
• Sound information and communication technology skills- in the use of computer hardware and software programs for word processing, emails, documentation, internet access and telephony.
• Knowledge of challenges of working in a remote area.
