Job summary

The Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing is seeking 3 part-time Legal Support Officers for the Legal Services Branch in Melbourne.

Ideal candidates are 2027 penultimate or final year LLB/JD students who will gain insight into a leading Victoria Public Service department and build capabilities for a legal career in the VPS. Applicants must be ready for pre-employment screening.

Qualifications

• Open to 2027 penultimate and final year LLB/JD students.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to methodically review documents and detect errors.
• Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or valid work permit/visa.

Responsibilities

• Provide administrative support for filing and record management in LEX (Legal Services' internal legal matter management system), TRIM Content Management System and Microsoft Teams, including data entry, printing, photocopying and scanning.
• Coordinate and triage requests received by central inboxes: answer queries, provide timely advice and follow up actions as required.
• Assist solicitors and paralegals in managing advice and litigation; draft precedent forms, documents and correspondence.
• Prepare court books, briefs and Legal Services Orders.
• Support budget management and maintenance of matters.
• Provide in-person support at court hearings.
