Job summary

Cook Shire Council is seeking a Parks and Open Spaces Labourer to maintain and improve the region's parks, reserves and public spaces across Cooktown. You will join a dedicated team that values safety, teamwork and pride in your work.

You will operate tractors, mowers, blowers, chainsaws and whipper snippers, perform general grounds maintenance, and support streetscape tasks. A MR licence and White Card are mandatory; training is provided; 9 day fortnight supports work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Must have MR Class Driver's Licence and White Card.
• Chainsaw or Horticultural qualifications are highly regarded.
• Experience in parks/open spaces maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Undertake general grounds maintenance including moving, mowing, weeding, pruning and planting.
• Maintain playgrounds, sport fields and other public spaces.
• Operate small plant and equipment such as tractors, mowers, blowers, chainsaws and whipper snippers.
• Assist with streetscape maintenance and minor landscaping tasks.
• Conduct inspections and report hazards or maintenance issues.
• Support a team that values initiative and clear communication.

What you'll be doing

• Undertaking general grounds maintenance including moving, bush cutting, weeding, pruning and planting.
• Maintaining playgrounds, sport fields, and other public spaces.
• Operating small plant and equipment such as tractors, mowers, blowers, chainsaws and whipper snippers.
• Assisting with streetscape maintenance, minor landscaping and development tasks.
• Performing inspections and reporting any hazards or maintenance issues.
• Supporting a team that appreciates initiative, clear communication and a can-do attitude.

What we're looking for

• Previous experience in parks and open spaces maintenance or related outdoor work.
• Ability to safely and competently operate relevant machinery and tools.
• A strong work ethic with the ability to work both independently and in a team.
• A strong safety awareness.
• Physically fit and able to work in varying outdoor conditions.
• A current MR Class Driver's Licence (Mandatory).
• Construction White Card. (Mandatory).
• Chainsaw or Horticultural qualifications (Highly regarded).

• $69,678 per annum + eligible allowances
• Leave Entitlements: 5 weeks annual leave per annum, 15 days personal leave per annum, 9 day fortnight
• Superannuation: 12% Superannuation contributions
