Upper Hunter Shire Council in Merriwa is seeking a General Labourer – Parks & Facilities to maintain and enhance our parks, open spaces and facilities. You’ll contribute to safe, attractive, well‑kept community spaces with a friendly team.

You’ll work a hands-on role with training provided, a true 38‑hour week, 9‑day fortnight, and opportunities for career progression in civil construction. A positive attitude and relevant licences are essential.

Qualifications

• A class C driver’s licence is required.
• White Card is required or willingness to obtain.
• Certificate III in Civil Construction or equivalent is preferred.
• MR licence and traffic control tickets are desirable.
• Experience in parks and facilities or similar labouring roles is valued.

Responsibilities

• General parks and facilities maintenance activities.
• Plant and equipment maintenance and operation.
• Weed, pest and disease control in outdoor spaces.
• Tree planting, maintenance and landscaping activities.

The role:
Council is seeking a suitably experienced and motivated labourer to join our Merriwa Parks & Facilities team. This position plays an important role in maintaining and enhancing Council’s parks, open spaces and facilities, helping to deliver safe, attractive and well-maintained community spaces.

The role involves a variety of hands-on outdoor maintenance duties, including but not limited to:

• General parks and facilities maintenance activities
• Plant and equipment maintenance and operation
• Weed, pest and disease control
• Tree planting, maintenance and landscaping activities
• Operating and maintaining watering systems, while working alongside an experienced team to deliver visible outcomes for the community
• We welcome motivated individuals, including recent school leavers with some labouring experience, who are willing to learn and build a career in civil construction. Training and development will be provided to suitable applicants.

What’s on offer:

• A salary range from $1140.70 – $1277.60 per week (based on relevant skills and experience) + 12% superannuation + allowances
• A true 38 hour working week, Monday – Friday working week with the opportunity for overtime if desired
• Fortnightly Rostered Day Off (working a 9-day fortnight)

What we need from you:

• A class C driver’s licence
• A positive attitude and strong work ethic
• Willingness to work outdoors in a practical hands-on role
• Previous experience in parks and facilities or a similar labouring role will be highly regarded.
• A current White Card or willingness to obtain
• A Certificate III in Civil Construction or willingness to obtain.
• A current MR licence and traffic control tickets are desirable, as is experience operating light plant and machinery.
