Job summary

Maranoa Regional Council is seeking a Trainee – Horticulture to join the Parks and Open Spaces team in Roma. You will gain practical workplace experience while working on parks, gardens and public spaces, with on-the-job training toward a Certificate II in Horticulture.

No prior experience is required; this role suits Year 10–12 graduates who enjoy outdoor work, are reliable, and eager to learn. Join a supportive team and start a hands-on career in horticulture.

Qualifications

• No prior horticulture qualification is required.
• Open to Year 10–12 school leavers.
• Australian citizen or permanent resident is required.
• Be 15 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Care for and maintain Council's parks, gardens and public spaces.
• Learn planting, gardening, mowing, pruning, weed management and use of horticultural tools.
• Work outdoors safely and as part of a team.
• Complete a Certificate II in Horticulture while gaining practical experience.

About the Opportunity

Looking for a hands-on career where you can learn while you work?

Join our Parks and Open Spaces team as a Trainee – Horticulture and gain practical workplace experience while completing a Certificate II in Horticulture.

Working alongside experienced team members, you'll learn how to care for and maintain Council's parks, gardens and public spaces. You'll develop practical skills in areas such as planting, gardening, mowing, pruning, weed management, using horticultural tools and equipment, and working safely outdoors.

No previous experience is required. This is a great opportunity for a recent Year 10, 11 or 12 school leaver who enjoys being outdoors, likes working with their hands and is interested in starting a career in horticulture.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Enjoys working outdoors.
• Has an interest in plants, gardening or parks.
• Is reliable, enthusiastic and willing to learn.
• Works well as part of a team.
• Can follow instructions and work safely.
• Takes pride in their work and is willing to give new things a go.

• Not already hold a qualification in the same or a related field.
