Job summary

Walgett Shire Council is hiring Casual Urban Maintenance Workers across multiple Walgett Shire locations. The roles involve maintaining urban infrastructure, parks, and public spaces, with emphasis on safe, outdoor, manual work and strong community impact.

Candidates should have a valid Class C driver’s license and a WHS Construction Induction Card. Plant operation tickets and first aid are an advantage, with opportunities to transition to permanency in local government.

Qualifications

• Motivated and hardworking with a practical background in horticulture, maintenance, or water and wastewater
• Physically capable and willing to perform manual labour and work in adverse weather conditions
• Able to carry out inspections, perform routine maintenance, and operate plant safely and efficiently
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety and environmental standards
• Able to follow instructions, meet timeframes, and learn new tasks
• Good communication, teamwork, and public service mindset
• Pride in upholding the Council and community reputation

Responsibilities

• Uphold the upkeep and presentation of urban infrastructure, parks and public spaces
• Operate various plant and equipment safely and efficiently
• Contribute to water and wastewater network maintenance and repairs
