Job summary

Buloke Shire Council invites applications for Open Spaces Maintenance Operators to perform routine maintenance across footpaths, parks, reserves and public amenities in Wycheproof and surrounding townships. The role covers drainage, kerb and channel work, plus aerodrome and railway reserve duties.

You will operate mid-sized plant, maintain public spaces, and support safety initiatives with basic risk assessments. A current licence and White Card are required, with after-hours duties possible.

Qualifications

• Experience operating medium plant and mowing equipment.
• Current Drivers Licence.
• White Card or ability to obtain one.
• Good understanding of OHS in the workplace.
• Strong communication skills written and verbal.
• Ability to plan and organise allocated work within timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Routinely inspect footpaths, kerb, channel and drainage systems, parks and gardens, playgrounds, public convenience facilities and public barbecues.
• Assist with risk assessments and risk controls for urban maintenance works.
• Inspect and maintain urban drainage systems within parks and reserves to minimise flooding risks and protect property and assets.
• Operate medium-sized mechanical plant, including patrol trucks, front-end loaders, mowers and ancillary equipment.
• Maintain parks, playgrounds, reserves, public amenities and other infrastructure managed by Council.
• Maintain the railway reserve on Broadway in Wycheproof and perform aerodrome maintenance.
• Maintain accurate records of activities undertaken and assigned plant and equipment.
• Carry out after-hours duties when available as directed as part of Council’s after-hours emergency response team.

Buloke Shire Council is seeking motivated and practical Open Spaces Maintenance Operators to join our team. This role is responsible for routine maintenance and improvements across footpaths, drainage, streetscapes, parks, reserves and public amenities, helping to maintain safe, attractive and functional community spaces.

In This Role You Will

• Routinely inspect footpaths, kerb, channel and drainage systems, parks and gardens, playgrounds, public convenience facilities and public barbecues.
• Assist with risk assessments and appropriate risk controls for urban maintenance works.
• Inspect and maintain urban drainage systems within parks and reserves to minimise flooding risks and protect property and assets.
• Operate medium-sized mechanical plant, including patrol trucks, front-end loaders, mowers and ancillary equipment.

To Be Successful In This Role You Will

• Have previous experience operating medium plant, ride-on and pedestrian mowers, small plant, parks and gardens equipment and vehicles over 4.5 tonnes GCM to 13.9 tonnes GCM.
• Hold a current Drivers Licence.
• Hold or be able to obtain a Construction Induction Card (White Card) and any other licences required to perform the duties of the position.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of OHS requirements in the workplace.
• Demonstrate interpersonal, oral, written and reading skills sufficient to communicate basic information to the public and other staff.
• Be able to plan and organise allocated work within a set timeframe or work plan.
