About the role:

We have vacancies in our Urban Maintenance team across multiple Walgett Shire locations. Urban Maintenance Workers ensure the upkeep, maintenance, and presentation of Walgett Shire’s urban infrastructure, parks, public spaces, and water and wastewater network. The role is suitable for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on, physical work, and being outdoors.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the roles requires a commitment to providing quality public service and promoting a positive image of Council and the Walgett Shire area to the community and public.

The successful candidate will require a valid Class C driver’s license and a WHS Construction Induction Card (White Card). Tickets in plant operation, chemical safety, chainsaw operation, and first aid will be highly regarded.

About you:
  • Motivated and hardworking with a practical background in horticulture, maintenance, or water and wastewater
  • Physically capable and willing to perform manual labour and work in adverse weather conditions
  • Possess the skills necessary to carry out inspections, perform routine maintenance, and operate various plant and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of safety procedures and strong commitment to workplace health and safety and environmental standards
  • Able to follow instructions, work within timeframes, and have a willingness to learn and adapt
  • Reliable, respectful, have a positive attitude, good communication skills and willingness to contribute effectively to a team
  • Understand the importance of public service and take pride in upholding the reputation of the Council and the community
