Job summary

Veolia in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day performance of the Brooklyn depot. This hands-on, site-based leadership role focuses on safety, people, fleet performance, service delivery and operational efficiency.

Reporting to the Depot Manager, you will guide frontline operations to ensure safe, efficient and consistent service delivery while driving continuous improvement and achieving KPIs.

Qualifications

• Experience leading frontline teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven ability to drive safety, compliance and operational standards (WHS, Australian transport).
• Strong people leadership and performance management capability.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Commercial acumen with ability to interpret financial data and manage costs.
• Experience in budgeting, cost forecasting and reporting at depot level.
• Current Australian Driver’s Licence and access to own vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Manage supervisors, frontline teams, shift structures and resource allocation.
• Drive operational performance against KPIs and service targets.
• Control variable costs including overtime, fuel and workshop expenditure.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day performance of our Brooklyn depot in Melbourne. This is a hands‑on, site‑based leadership role with accountability for safety, people, fleet performance, service delivery and operational efficiency.
Reporting to the Depot Manager, you’ll lead our frontline operations and ensure the depot delivers safely, efficiently and consistently.

What you'll be responsible for

• Lead daily depot operations, safety and fleet performance
• Manage supervisors, frontline teams, shift structures and resource allocation
• Drive operational performance against agreed KPIs and service targets
• Manage key variable costs including overtime, fuel and workshop expenditure
• Support budget preparation, cost forecasting and financial reporting for the depot
• Build a strong, engaged and accountable frontline culture
• Manage frontline employee matters, including performance, grievances and industrial relations issues
• Drive safety, compliance and operational standards, including NHVR requirements, relevant EBAs, awards and procedures
• Build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain service delivery
• Identify and drive continuous improvement across the operation

What you'll need to be successful

• Strong background in operations management and frontline people leadership, ideally within transport, logistics, waste or a fast‑paced operational environment
• Demonstrated experience driving operational efficiencies, continuous improvement and performance against KPIs
• Proven ability to lead safety, compliance and operational standards, including WHS and Australian transport requirements
• Strong people management skills, including performance management, coaching, employee engagement and conflict resolution
• Commercial acumen, with the ability to interpret financial and operational information and manage variable costs
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and resolve issues in a complex operational environment
• Demonstrated experience leading change and making sound decisions in a busy frontline environment
• Current Australian Driver’s Licence and own vehicle required
