Job summary

Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking an Open Spaces and Irrigation Maintenance Officer to join the Open Spaces and Cemeteries team in Bowen. This hands-on role maintains, operates, repairs and improves irrigation infrastructure while supporting parks, gardens, sports fields and other open spaces.

You will install, program and troubleshoot irrigation systems; monitor water use, keep records, perform general grounds maintenance, and assist with cemetery work, events and disaster recovery as

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience installing, operating, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems including fault diagnosis.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork and customer service in open spaces and cemetery operations.
• Ability to operate plant, equipment and small machinery related to open spaces and cemetery tasks.

Responsibilities

• Install, program, operate, maintain and repair irrigation systems and related infrastructure.
• Diagnose faults in controllers, valves, solenoids, sprinklers, pipework and pumps.
• Inspect irrigation systems, monitor water use and identify efficiency improvements.
• Maintain records of defects, inspections, repairs and stock levels.
• Perform general grounds maintenance including mowing, weed control and amenity tasks.
• Assist with cemetery maintenance, events and disaster response as required.
