Job summary

PROCOM-Production/Compliance Mining Services – Gunnedah NSW

PROCOM is seeking an experienced Open Cut Mining Equipment Proficiency Trainer for a site-based role supporting production operations in Gunnedah, NSW.

This is an in-pit operational role focused on proficiency training for production operators across large scale mining equipment. It is suited to an experienced mine technician or production supervisor with the practical capability to assess operator technique in real time, identify improvement opportunities, and coach operators to a higher standard of safe, efficient and consistent performance.

This role is not centred on classroom delivery or generic compliance training. It is a field-based position for someone who understands production equipment, operating techniques, and the difference between a task being completed and a machine being operated well.

The opportunity

You will work closely with operators, supervisors and site leadership to support the development of better operating practices through structured in-field observation, coaching, assessment and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in-pit operator proficiency observations and assessments
• Assess operators against defined operational and site performance standards
• Provide practical one-on-one coaching to production operators
• Observe and assess equipment operation across the full operating cycle
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, operating technique, consistency and machine efficiency
• Track operator progress and identify performance trends
• Work with supervisors to support targeted operator development plans
• Contribute to the review of operator standards, assessment criteria and training materials
• Promote consistent operating methods across crews, shifts and equipment types
• Maintain a strong focus on safe, controlled and efficient machine operation
• Prepare reports and presentations on proficiency data and outcomes

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• 5+ years’ experience in an open-cut mining environment
• Demonstrated experience operating mining equipment
• - hydraulic excavators, including Hitachi EX 1900, 3600 & 5600/ electric and mechanical drive Haul Trucks/CAT Dozers D9, D10, D11/CAT Graders 16H, 16M &24M
• Strong understanding of equipment operating techniques and performance standards
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Mid-level experience using mining systems and technology (ie Minview) including Microsoft excel and PowerPoint,
• Experience coaching, mentoring or developing operators
• Strong observation, analysis and report-writing capability
• Current relevant site competencies and licences
• Confidence to provide direct, constructive feedback to experienced operators
• A clear commitment to safety, discipline and continuous improvement

Highly regarded

• Previous experience as a trainer, assessor, operator coach, leading hand or supervisor
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122)
• G1, G8 & G9
• Experience with GPS machine guidance and digital mine designs
