Job summary

Bravus Mining and Resources' Carmichael mine seeks an experienced Open-Cut Examiner to oversee safety and health and ensure CMHSA compliance across the mine. The role features a 7/7 rotating roster (days and nights) to support work-life balance and sustained safety performance.

The candidate will hold Queensland Open Cut Examiner qualifications, PCS compliance, S1/S2/S3, G2 competencies, First Aid/CPR and a Class C licence, with demonstrated leadership and risk-management capability.

Qualifications

• Current Queensland Open Cut Examiner qualification and PCS compliance.
• Open-cut coal mining leadership experience and team management.
• Strong knowledge of mining safety, regulations and legislation.
• Ability to build relationships and influence outcomes.
• Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook; gas monitoring competency required.
• Current medical and licence requirements as listed (medical, driving).

Responsibilities

• Conduct statutory inspections each shift across open-cut areas.
• Monitor and manage operational risks to ensure safe production.
• Support development, review and auditing of SHMS.
• Assist with coal quality, spontaneous combustion and CHPP interface matters.
• Contribute to production planning, risk assessments and JSA.
• Ensure compliance with CMHSA and regulations.
• Escalate safety issues promptly to maintain safe operations.
• Complete and maintain accurate operational and statutory documentation.

Job description

Bravus Mining and Resources' Carmichael mine is an open cut thermal coal mine in the North Galilee Basin, approximately 160 kilometres northwest of the town of Clermont.

Carmichael produces more than 12 million tonnes of thermal coal for the export market each year.

More than 1400 people are engaged in permanent roles at Carmichael and workers travel to site on direct flights from Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns, or Mackay (a flight time of approximately 55 minutes). Those team members who live in the Isaac region have the option to drive-in and drive-out with individual travel and fatigue management plans in place.

Bravus Mining and Resources' Carmichael mine is Queensland's largest open cut thermal coal mine by export volume and is entering its next phase of operation.

We're looking for an experienced Open-Cut Examiner who will be primarily responsible for overseeing the mining operations to ensure the safety and health of all personnel working in and around the open cut operation of our Carmichael mine and compliance with the requirements of the CMHSA across the mine.

The roster for this position is a 7/7 rotating day and night shift roster (7 days on, 7 days off, 7 nights on, 7 days off), designed to support a healthy work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct statutory inspections each shift across open-cut mining areas.
• Monitor and manage operational risks to ensure safe production.
• Support the development, review and auditing of the site Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).
• Assist with coal quality, spontaneous combustion and CHPP interface matters.
• Contribute to production planning, risk assessments and job safety analyses.
• Ensure compliance with the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations.
• Escalate and address safety issues promptly to maintain safe mining operations.
• Complete and maintain accurate operational and statutory documentation.

About You

You are a safety-focused mining professional with strong leadership capabilities and a commitment to operational excellence.

• Current Queensland Open Cut Examiner qualification, Queensland OCE Practising Certificate & evidence of compliance with the Practising Certificate Scheme (PCS).
• Experience in open-cut coal mining operations with demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
• Strong knowledge of mining safety, legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to build positive working relationships and influence outcomes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Current S1, S2, S3 and G2 competencies, Current First Aid and CPR certification and RIIENV301E qualification and demonstrated competency in gas monitoring.
• Current Standard 11, Queensland Coal Board Medical, Queensland Class C Driver Licence.
