Bravus Mining and Resources is seeking an experienced leader to head drill and blast operations at the Carmichael Mine. You will drive production, safety and cost controls, while coordinating with mining operations and contractor teams on plans and schedules.

The role emphasizes safety leadership, budget stewardship and continuous improvement within a large-scale surface mining context, with a FIFO/8x6 roster and on-site operations in Central Queensland.

About the role

Reporting to the Surface Mine Manager, you will lead the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of drill and blast activities at Carmichael Coal Mine. This is a critical leadership role responsible for driving operational performance, contractor management, blast quality, cost control and continuous improvement across the drill and blast function.

Working closely with Mining Operations, Technical Services and contractor drill and blast services teams, you will ensure drilling and blasting activities are executed safely, on schedule and in alignment with the mine plan, while building a high-performing team culture focused on accountability, collaboration and excellence. The role is also responsible for managing enabling activities such as drill area preparation, road works, delineation, ancillary equipment and clearing activities.

This position is based at the Carmichael Mine, Central Queensland's Galilee Basin, providing a balanced lifestyle with eight days on and six days off (8 / 6 roster). The ideal candidate would FIFO out of Townsville, Rockhampton or Mackay (a flight time of 55 minutes). Candidates who live in the Isaac region also have the option to drive-in and drive-out.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all drill and blast activities to safely deliver production and mine plan objectives
• Provide visible safety leadership and ensure compliance with site standards, statutory obligations and critical risk controls
• Manage drilling and explosives contractors to achieve operational, safety and commercial outcomes
• Drive blast quality, operational reliability and continuous improvement initiatives across the mining value chain
• Develop and manage drill and blast budgets, cost performance and contractor accountability
• Build capability within the team through coaching, mentoring and leadership development
• Monitor and report on key performance metrics, identifying opportunities to improve productivity, utilisation and overall business performance

You are an experienced mining leader with a strong background in drill and blast operations and a proven ability to deliver results in a large-scale surface mining environment. You thrive in fast-paced operational settings, bring a strong commercial mindset and are passionate about developing people and improving performance.

• Significant experience leading drill and blast activities within an open-cut mining operation, including general mining earthworks and heavy equipment operations
• Sound understanding of drilling, explosives and blasting processes, risks and controls
• Strong contractor management and stakeholder engagement capability
• Experience managing budgets, operational performance and continuous improvement initiatives
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop and influence high-performing teams, supported by excellent communication, planning and problem-solving abilities
