Job summary

Cancer Council Victoria seeks a Medical Coder to join the Victorian Cancer Registry in the Cancer Research Division. You will code cancer data from hospitals and pathology providers, ensure privacy, and support data quality in a not-for-profit environment.

The role offers hybrid work between home and our East Melbourne office, with a fixed-term contract to 30 June 2028 and a base salary aligned with sector norms plus superannuation.

Qualifications

• Completion of a HIMAA course or a health science degree or extensive work experience in a health-related field.
• Ability to be thorough and accurate with great attention to detail.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, learn independently, and contribute to process improvements.
• Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and privacy principles when handling sensitive health information with professional communication.

Responsibilities

• Review source information, assign oncology codes per VCR protocols, and liaise with cancer notifiers to clarify data.
• Adhere to privacy and confidentiality protocols while working with registry data.
• Plan, organise and prioritise coding and non-coding tasks to meet team objectives and deadlines.
• Participate in quality assurance activities and help improve coding practices and workflows.
