Job summary

Transurban is seeking a 12-month casual Network Operator based in Sydney to monitor traffic in busy control rooms, redirect flow and coordinate response teams to keep roads safe. The role requires availability weekends and public holidays as roads operate 24/7.

You will work with control systems, CCTV and incident detection to manage incidents, collate real-time info, and produce rigorous traffic management plans while staying calm under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a monitoring centre or operational environment.
  • Strong computer skills and adaptability to new technology.
  • Organised, efficient and decisive in prioritising tasks while juggling multiple duties.
  • Experience in writing reports and including key details for smooth operations.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor traffic via control systems on open roads and in tunnels.
  • Coordinate response teams and relay critical information quickly.
  • Collaborate with field staff and emergency services to contain incidents.
  • Develop incident and traffic management plans for safer and more efficient roads.
  • Provide real-time road condition updates to stakeholders, media and customers.

Job description

12-month casual position, based in Sydney. This role requires full availability, including weekends and public holidays, as the roads we manage operate 24/7.

About the role
We’re seeking a casual Network Operator to work in our busy control rooms, redirect traffic flow, coordinate response teams, and relay critical info to keep our roads safe, all while remaining naturally composed and alert at all times. You'll join an innovative team, who tirelessly monitor the flow of the traffic with an eagle eye and respond with lightning speed in the event of incidents, both big and small.
Day-to-day, you will:
  • Work with different control systems to monitor and manage traffic on both open roads and in tunnels
  • Automated Height Detectors, Road Management systems, CCTV , Automatic Incident Detection Systems - these are just some of the things you will get to know like the back of your hand
  • Work collaboratively with field staff, Emergency Service and your team, you will act swiftly to respond to incidents to contain the event and keep everyone safe
  • Incident Management and Traffic Management plans will become second nature to you, you will create these with ease to ensure our roads run more efficiently and safely when things don't go to plan
  • Collate real time info on road conditions for our stakeholders, the media and our customers, so there are no surprises when they use our roads
  • Understand the importance of rigorous knowledge of traffic management policies, practices and procedures, including operational systems.

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • Experience in a monitoring centre or operational environment

  • Organised, efficient and decisive in in prioritising the tasks that count, all while juggling multiple tasks
  • Experienced in writing reports and you know which important details to include so the operation runs smoothly
  • Shift work's your thing, you've done it before and you like it - our roads are open 24/7.
