Job summary

Western Downs Regional Council is seeking a Network Operator to carry out construction and maintenance on water and sewer infrastructure. You will operate Medium Rigid trucks and related machinery, perform routine servicing and assist with safety controls.

The role requires a MR licence and a strong commitment to WHS. You may undertake afterhours standby, traffic control duties and manual labour as directed by the site supervisor.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil construction and maintenance practices in water/sewer networks.
• Current MR Class or higher licence and WHS induction are preferred.
• Willingness to obtain additional competencies as required.

The Opportunity

The Network Operator is responsible for undertaking construction and maintenance activities on Councils water and sewer infrastructure through the skilled operation of trucks and machinery, along with general labouring duties as required.

This role encompasses a range of duties and responsibilities which may vary as directed by Council. The key ones include:

• Operating various types of trucks, plant and machinery, primarily Medium Rigid trucks;

• Operating various types of mechanical or electrical hand tools and equipment in construction and maintenance works;

• Participating in standby roster for afterhours work;

• Undertaking routine maintenance of assigned equipment;

• Undertaking traffic control duties as directed;

• Completing allocated tasks consistently within agreed time frames;

• Ability to proactively identify, report and effectively address any workplace health and safety hazards/issues;

• Carrying out work in accordance with WHS obligations and responsibilities; and

• To undertake manual handling / labouring as directed by site supervisor.

About Yourself

A person in this position will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in various aspects of Civil Construction and maintenance works OR equivalent related experience. It is also highly desirable for the successful candidate to have;

• WH&S Construction Safety Induction White Card;

• Current MR Class or higher licence;

• Ability or willingness to obtain other competencies as required relevant to the position e.g., Confined space entry, MUTCD Level 2, Working at Heights, Trench Shoring;

• Knowledge of various construction and maintenance practices and procedures relevant to water and sewerage construction and maintenance;

• Knowledge pf Uniform traffic control devices and its applications for signage needs to road works;

• Certificate of Competency - Skid steer loader/ backhoe;

• A medical assessment may be required to determine physical fitness for the role

• There is a requirement to be 'fit tested' for tight fitting respirators within the first three (3) months of employment, and ability to maintain compliance with 'fit-testing' standards to meet operational needs. This includes being clean-shaven or having facial hair that does not interfere with fitting surfaces and the respirator valve.
