Job summary

Western Downs Regional Council – Miles QLD is seeking a Diesel Fitter to diagnose, repair and maintain a range of council equipment including loaders, dozers, graders and trucks. The role covers workshop and field work with a focus on improving operations.

Applicants should hold a relevant trade certificate as a Diesel Fitter or Light Vehicle Mechanic, or demonstrate equivalent experience. Supervision of apprentices and workshop procedure development are desirable.

• Ability to diagnose malfunctions and perform field/workshop repairs.
• Capability to interpret vehicle manuals and service schedules.

The Opportunity

The Diesel Fitter is responsible for diagnosing, repairing and maintaining Council equipment such as loaders, dozers, graders, road rollers, backhoes and trucks along with providing workshop services across the region.

The major focus of the role is to continuously improve operations.

The key responsibilities include:

• (1) Diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
• (2) Dismantling, repairing, rebuilding, assembling and installing parts to vehicles, construction and industrial machinery in the field and in the Workshop.
• (3) Requisitioning needed spare parts.

About Yourself

A person in this position will need to hold a relevant Trade Certificate as a Deisel Fitter or Light Vehicle Mechanic, OR be able to demonstrate equivalent related experience.

It is also highly desirable for the successful candidate to have:

• (3) An apprentice supervisory role (preferred);
• (4) Contributing to the development and implementation of workshop procedures;
• (5) Problem solving (root cause identification; process);
• (6) Managing deadlines and prioritising work to ensure deadlines are met;(7) Effective communication; and
• (8) Ability to interpret vehicle manuals/update service schedules.
