Job summary

Monash University is seeking a Network Engineer to join the Network Services team and shape connectivity across campus, data centre, private and public cloud networks. You will influence network evolution through automation, AI-enabled operations and software-defined networking, supporting 200+ buildings and 11,000 wireless access points.

In this role you’ll resolve incidents, deliver upgrades, improve observability and automation, and participate in a 24/7 roster.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of Data Centre technologies (Cisco ACI, EVPN-VXLAN, NXOS, public cloud)
• Experience with large-scale enterprise campus networks including switching and wireless
• Experience with Cisco ISE and 802.1X network access control
• Strong networking fundamentals: Cisco networking, TCP/IP, IPv6, routing, LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPNs and ACLs
• Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues and deliver timely solutions in a fast-paced IT environment
• Knowledge of networking security standards and regulatory requirements and a customer focus

• Keep critical network services secure, resilient and high-performing across 200+ buildings and 50+ sites

The Opportunity

Join Monash Group’s Network Services team as a Network Engineer and help shape the connectivity that underpins world-class education, research and digital services. You’ll work across a complex, large-scale environment spanning campus, data centre, private and public cloud networks, with the opportunity to influence how the network evolves through automation, AI-enabled operations and software-defined networking.

You’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team responsible for keeping critical network services secure, resilient and high-performing across 200+ buildings, 50+ sites, 160,000+ switch ports and 11,000 wireless access points. From resolving complex incidents and delivering network upgrades to improving observability and automation, your expertise will have a tangible impact at scale.

Key Selection Criteria

• Extensive experience and knowledge of Data Centre technologies (Cisco ACI, EVPN-VXLAN, NXOS, public cloud etc)
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise campus networks, including switching, wireless and network management platforms.
• Experience with Cisco ISE, including 802.1X network access control and TACACS+.
• Strong technical expertise across Cisco networking, TCP/IP, IPv6, routing, LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPNs and ACLs.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network issues, analyse performance and deliver effective, timely solutions in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and produce clear technical documentation and diagrams.
• Highly developed planning and organisational skills, with experience managing priorities, changes, improvements and deadlines within an ITIL-aligned environment.
• A strong customer and service focus, with knowledge of relevant networking, security standards and regulatory requirements, and a commitment to secure, reliable network operations.
• Knowledge and understanding of BIND DNS, Linux systems and automation tools (Ansible, Python) would be an advantage.
