Job summary

International College of Management, Sydney is seeking a Senior Network & Systems Engineer to lead design, delivery and ongoing improvement of the college's infrastructure, network, cloud and cybersecurity environments. You will report to the Head of IT Operations and guide staff through complex technical challenges.

This hands-on role covers Microsoft 365, Azure, AD, backup, DR, identity management and collaboration tools, with responsibilities across on-premises, data centre and cloud

Qualifications

• Degree in Computing, Information Technology, or equivalent industry knowledge and experience.
• Extensive experience with internetworking technologies, including Cisco routing, switching, and firewall systems.
• Strong experience administering Windows Server environments.
• Extensive experience with virtualization technologies, particularly Microsoft Hyper-V across on-premises, data centre, and cloud environments.
• Strong experience administering Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and Active Directory environments.
• Extensive knowledge of information security tools and processes, with Fortinet, CrowdStrike, Mimecast exposure.
• Strong experience configuring storage solutions; SAN/NAS, backup, DR; hyperconverged infra and Veeam highly regarded.
• Experience managing internet services, including email, DNS, and related infrastructure services.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a IT team and with stakeholders; vendor management experience.
• Previous experience in higher education and relevant industry certifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, support, and continuous improvement of the organisation's network, infrastructure, cloud, and systems environments across on-premises, data centre, and cloud platforms.
• Act as the senior technical escalation point, leading the resolution of complex infrastructure, network, security, cloud, and identity-related incidents and issues.
• Manage and administer enterprise platforms and services, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, email, collaboration tools, telephony, and identity and access management.
• Oversee compute, virtualisation, storage, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions to ensure resilience and operational continuity.
• Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of cybersecurity controls, vulnerability management, security monitoring, and incident response capabilities.
• Ensure secure onboarding and offboarding processes, including user access, licensing, device provisioning, and governance requirements.
• Manage the lifecycle of IT hardware, software, and infrastructure assets, ensuring they remain secure, supported, and fit for purpose.
• Manage vendor relationships, service providers, contracts, and procurement activities, ensuring service delivery meets organisational requirements and agreed standards.
• Lead, mentor, and provide technical oversight to the Network & Systems Administrator while fostering a collaborative, high-performing IT team culture.
• Contribute to strategic technology initiatives, projects, documentation, governance, stakeholder engagement, and continuous service improvement across the organisation.

About the Role

The Senior Network & Systems Engineer is a key technical leadership role responsible for the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of the organisation's infrastructure, network, cloud, and cybersecurity environments. Reporting to the Head of IT Operations, you will provide expert guidance across enterprise systems, storage, backup, identity management, and collaboration platforms while ensuring services remain secure, resilient, and high performing.

You will lead day-to-day infrastructure operations, act as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, manage key technology vendors, and mentor the Network & Systems Administrator. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you will drive operational excellence, support strategic technology initiatives, and ensure reliable technology services that enable staff and student success.

Key Responsibilities

• Strong experience configuring and managing storage solutions, including enterprise compute, SAN, NAS, backup, and disaster recovery technologies. Experience with hyperconverged infrastructure and Veeam is highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience managing internet services, including email, DNS, and related infrastructure services.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team of IT professionals and support staff.
• Experience in vendor management, procurement support, and commercial decision-making.
• Previous experience working within the higher education sector.
• Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft, Fortinet, Veeam, ITIL, cybersecurity, or cloud certifications.
• Experience supporting Essential Eight maturity requirements, ISO 27001-aligned controls, or technology and compliance audits.
• Experience with Microsoft Intune, Azure AI foundations, automation, infrastructure-as-code, or configuration management tools.
