Job summary

Monash University seeks a Manager – Linux Platforms to lead the Linux Platforms and Delivery teams, ensuring enterprise services are secure, resilient and available in hybrid cloud environments.

You will drive modernisation through automation, IaC, observability and AI-enabled operations, shaping platform roadmaps, lifecycle strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership of high-performing technical teams.
• Extensive enterprise Linux platform experience with RHEL and/or Ubuntu.
• Strong automation and configuration management expertise (Ansible, Puppet or equivalents).
• Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code, DevOps and platform engineering.
• Experience embedding observability, intelligent monitoring, automation and AI-enabled/AIOps capabilities.
• Experience managing budgets, forecasting, vendor relationships, licensing and cost optimisation within complex ICT environments.
• Strong strategic, risk and service management capability including lifecycle planning, incident management, DR and compliance.

The Opportunity

Lead the future of Monash University’s enterprise Linux platforms and supporting automation services in a role combining technical leadership, people leadership and strategic impact.

As the Manager – Linux Platforms, you will lead the Linux Platforms and Delivery teams, ensuring critical Linux services supporting enterprise, teaching and research systems are secure, resilient, highly available and fit for the future across complex hybrid cloud environments.

You will drive the modernisation of Monash’s Linux capability through automation, Infrastructure as Code, observability, platform engineering and AI-enabled operations, while shaping platform roadmaps, lifecycle strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.

In this role you will provide trusted technical leadership, manage risk and investment, and build high-performing teams. While strong technical credibility is essential, this is a leadership role not a primary hands‑on engineering position providing the opportunity to set direction, empower technical specialists and shape the future of Linux services at scale within Monash.

Key Selection Criteria

Proven leadership of high-performing technical teams, with a strong focus on capability development, accountability and service excellence.

Extensive enterprise Linux platform experience, with strong expertise across Red Hat Enterprise Linux and/or Ubuntu, including platform lifecycle, performance, availability, security, patching, capacity and operational management at scale.

Strong automation and configuration management expertise, particularly Ansible, Puppet or equivalent, with demonstrated success standardising Linux builds, configuration, compliance and operational processes

Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code, DevOps and platform engineering, delivering scalable, standardised and repeatable infrastructure services.

Experience embedding observability, intelligent monitoring, automation and AI-enabled/AIOps capabilities to improve reliability and operational efficiency.

Demonstrated experience managing budgets, forecasting, vendor relationships, licensing and cost optimisation within complex ICT environments.

Strong strategic, risk and service management capability, including lifecycle planning, operational support, incident management, disaster recovery and compliance.

Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to provide expert technical advice and lead enterprise-wide initiatives
