Job summary

Western Sydney University, Hawkesbury campus, is seeking a Network Engineer at HEW level 8 to deliver secure, high-performing network services across multiple campuses. You will implement, operate and continuously improve the university's network, diagnose incidents, and work with Cisco, HPE Aruba, Palo Alto and other vendors while supporting Zero Trust and network segmentation.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Information Technology or Network Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience implementing, supporting and operating enterprise networks.
• Experience with segmentation/Zero Trust or network access control.
• Strong knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, QoS, and segmentation.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced technical expertise across implementation, operation, and maintenance of the University network.
• Diagnose complex incidents and monitor network health across a multi-campus environment.
• Support technologies including Cisco, HPE Aruba, ClearPass, Palo Alto, Ruckus, Citrix ADC/NetScaler.
• Contribute to segmentation, Zero Trust and network access control initiatives.
• Coordinate with vendors and MSPs to transition new services into BAU operations.

• Full-time, ongoing position at HEW level 8.
• Hawkesbury campus with flexible working arrangements
• Salary: $120,754 – $134,051 p.a., plus 17% Super and Leave Loading.

Deliver secure, stable and high-performing network services while supporting network transformation across the University.

The Opportunity

You will provide advanced technical expertise across the implementation, operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the University’s network infrastructure. Your work will help maintain secure, stable and high-performing network services that support teaching, research and operational needs across a complex multi-campus environment.

You will diagnose complex incidents, implement approved changes and monitor network health, capacity and performance. Working across a multi-vendor ecosystem, you will support technologies including Cisco, HPE Aruba, ClearPass, Palo Alto, Ruckus wireless and application delivery platforms such as Citrix ADC and NetScaler.

You will contribute to network segmentation, Zero Trust, network access control and secure connectivity initiatives. You will also support infrastructure lifecycle and remediation activities, strengthen observability and automation, and work with technical teams, vendors and managed service providers to transition new and changed services into reliable business-as-usual operations.

What Success Looks Like:

• Maintain the availability, security, performance and reliability of network services.
• Diagnose complex incidents and address recurring network and infrastructure problems.
• Implement approved network changes, upgrades and lifecycle refresh activities.
• Strengthen network security through segmentation, access control and telemetry.
• Deliver effective testing, operational readiness and handover of changed services.

About You

• A tertiary qualification in Information Technology or Network Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated enterprise network implementation, support and operations experience.
• Experience supporting segmentation, Zero Trust or network access control initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, quality of service and segmentation principles.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work across technical teams and vendors.
