ACCIONA Mechanical & Electrical is seeking a National Construction Manager - Substations to coordinate all construction activities for high-voltage substation projects in Australia. The role covers engineering, procurement, scheduling, quality, safety and environmental compliance, from mobilisation to commissioning, to deliver on safety, quality, time and profitability.

The ideal candidate will have tertiary electrical qualifications, 15+ years in construction with at least 5 in leadership on HV

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Trade Qualifications.
• 15+ years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role on substation high voltage BOP projects.
• Proven track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects in a Tier 1 construction environment.
• Strong knowledge of high voltage construction methodologies, including plant erection and HV cable installation.
• Familiarity with utility standards (Powerlink, Transgrid, AusNet) and regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Provide construction methodology input and buildability advice during the tender phase for HV and substation projects.
• Collaborate with pre-contracts and estimating teams to develop construction programs and risk assessments.
• Participate in site visits and constructability reviews to inform bid strategies.
• Support handover from pre-contracts to delivery teams, ensuring continuity of knowledge and planning.
• Oversee development and execution of detailed construction programs for HV and substation works.
• Ensure alignment of construction activities with engineering deliverables and procurement schedules.
• Coordinate with the Superintendent and Foremen to manage subcontractor performance and site logistics.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and utility provider standards.
• Maintain and monitor the master construction schedule with focus on critical path.
• Accountable for project financial performance including cost control and forecasting.
• Work closely with commercial teams to manage subcontractor claims and variations.
• Collaborate with design managers to ensure timely delivery of IFC drawings.
