Job summary

Willoughby City Council is seeking a motivated Traffic Engineer to deliver safe, efficient movement for people, vehicles and goods across multimodal networks. The role involves managing permits, assessing traffic plans, engaging with communities and coordinating with internal teams.

You will contribute to road safety improvements, active transport projects and development applications while collaborating with stakeholders and external agencies.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or significant relevant experience.
• Class C NSW Driver Licence.
• Understanding of road safety, traffic engineering and road transport management systems.
• Knowledge of Australian Standards, Austroads Guidelines and Transport for NSW policies.
• Ability to collect, analyse and report on road network and traffic data.

Responsibilities

• Manage Council permit parking schemes (trade, road occupancy, residential, visitor, footpath lease, skip bin and heavy vehicle access permits).
• Assess Construction Safety and Transport Management Plans, work zones and traffic control plans on Council roads and pathways.
• Assess Event Safety and Transport Management Plans for cultural, recreational and sporting events.
• Collect and interpret traffic data for reports and Council processes.
• Develop and deliver traffic management and road safety projects, including briefs and community consultation.
• Prepare reports for Local Transport Forum and present information at meetings.
• Assess traffic matters in development applications and coordinate impact assessments.
• Respond to enquiries with timely, practical advice and maintain asset data and GIS records.
