Job summary

Visy in Australia is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician to keep forming lines running across hot and cold ends of the plant, using your mechanical experience in a fast-paced operation.

This role involves tool changes, preventive checks, and troubleshooting, with a rotating roster that includes day, afternoon and night shifts. You will work closely with the Shift Manager to maintain safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing, production or industrial environments.
• Experience working a rotating roster, including night shifts.
• Very strong mechanical aptitude, with hands-on experience using tools on production machinery.
• The physical capacity for sustained standing, walking and lifting.
• Ability to work in a hot, dusty and loud environment.
• Strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and high attention to detail.
• Safety held above all else, with a drive for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Perform tool and mould changes on forming equipment when changing formats.
• Strip and install mould gear, blanks and plungers during job changes, and support machine start-up.
• Swab, lubricate and spray forming machinery, and complete regular housekeeping.
• Complete set checks on hot ware and inspect finished ware for surface defects.
• Monitor and adjust cold end inspection equipment, clear jams and keep lines running.
• Operate computer production systems and record inspection results and machine readings.
• Troubleshoot and rectify minor mechanical faults, escalating beyond scope to the Shift Manager.
• Contribute to a safe working environment for yourself and the team.

This is a hands-on role working a rotating roster that includes day, afternoon and night shifts.

What You'll Do

• Perform tool and mould changes on forming equipment when changing between bottle, jar and glass formats
• Strip and install mould gear, blanks and plungers during job changes, and support machine start-up afterwards
• Swab, lubricate and spray forming machinery, and complete regular housekeeping including hot oil clean-downs
• Complete set checks on hot ware and inspection checks on finished ware, identifying surface and finish defects
• Monitor and adjust cold end inspection equipment, clear jams and broken ware, and keep lines running
• Operate computer production systems and record inspection results and machine readings
• Troubleshoot and rectify minor mechanical faults, escalating anything beyond scope to the Shift Manager
• Contribute to a safe working environment for yourself and the team

What You'll Bring

• Minimum 5 years' experience in a manufacturing, production or industrial environment — heavy industry preferred
• Demonstrated experience working a rotating roster, including night shifts
• Very strong mechanical aptitude, with hands-on experience using tools and working on production machinery. A mechanical trade background will be strongly considered
• The physical capacity for sustained standing, walking and lifting, performed safely and deliberately
• The ability to work in a challenging environment — hot, dusty and loud!
• Strong communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and a high level of attention to detail
• Safety held above all else, with a knack for continuous improvement
