Job summary

PPG Braeside Office in Melbourne is seeking a hands-on operator to provide operational, technical and training support across all facets of the customer production environment. This full-time, permanent role involves on-site vehicle preparation, paint mixing and application, plus ongoing equipment maintenance and staff training.

You will enforce standardised processes, identify bottlenecks, and contribute to site audits, while supporting EHS compliance and colour system knowledge.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience in high-volume vehicle repair
• Experience in process-driven environments
• Strong communication skills at all levels of business
• Ability to enforce processes is essential
• Understanding labour productivity and profitability relationships
• Sound planning and organisational skills
• Extensive knowledge of PPG products and application systems
• LEAN principles knowledge
• Basic computer literacy and email competency
• Self-motivation to complete tasks efficiently
• Hold a valid driver license
• Complete mandatory company training and adhere to EHS policies
• Comply with PPG ethics policy and vehicle policies

The Role

Key Responsibilities

• Strict adherence to standardised repair process & enforce same with site staff
• Ability to quickly identify and remedy on-site production bottlenecks
• Hands on role – vehicle preparation, paint mixing, paint application in line with site requirements
• Ongoing equipment maintenance – spray equipment / UV & IR lamps / gun-wash machines / color tools etc.
• Ability to train, mentor and discipline customer paint & panel staff as required
• Staff training - On-site & PPG Training Centre, one on one training, staff assessments, and pre-employment assessments
• Monthly Site Audits to identify areas of concern in relation to EHS, process and operations

Requirements

• Ideally 5 years plus of hands-on experience within a high-volume vehicle repair environment
• Experience with process driven environments
• High level of interpersonal & communication skills at all levels of business
• Ability to enforce process is a non-negotiable requirement
• Understanding of labour productivity and the relationship to overall profitability.
• Sound planning, time management and organisational skills.
• Extensive knowledge of PPG products and application systems.
• Knowledge of LEAN principles
• Basic computer & literary competency in regard to email and other electronic communication
• Be self-motivated to achieve the required work tasks efficiently during the working day
• Hold and maintain a current / valid motor vehicle driver license
• Complete all mandatory company training both internal or external as required, whether in person or online
• Adherence to all EHS policies at both PPG and Customer sites
• Ensure compliance with PPG Ethics policy
• Comply with the Travel and Entertainment policy
• All PPG sites and vehicles are Smoke Free environments
• Comply with the PPG Company Vehicle Policy
