Job summary

Cement Australia is offering a Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship in Tasmania. You’ll train across maintenance, fault finding and hands-on work on conveyors, pumps and underground equipment, building practical expertise in a mining setting.

The program provides Cert III Engineering along with funded education, PPE and tools, all under an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. First-year starts late January 2027; a teamwork‑oriented approach and safety are central to the role.

Qualifications

  • Year 11 with passes in Maths and English.
  • Enrolled in or completed Cert I/II Engineering.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Genuine interest in the trade and a positive learning attitude.
  • Willing to tackle whatever comes your way.

Responsibilities

  • Work within all site safety and environmental procedures.
  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance activities.
  • Fault find and diagnose problems.
  • Maintain good housekeeping during and after tasks.
  • Work on fixed plant and equipment including underground diesel and conveyors.
  • Carry out tasks in workshop and underground environments.
  • Use hand tools and electrical/pneumatic powered tools safely.
  • Respond to breakdowns with strong fault-finding skills.
  • Use CMMS for work orders and record keeping.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings and risk assessments.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Uphold safety standards and procedures at all times.
