Job summary

Rocky Creek Abattoir in Tolga, Far North Queensland, seeks an experienced Metal Fabricator / Boilermaker-Welder to fabricate, install, repair and maintain stainless-steel processing equipment and structural steel in a meat-processing environment.

The role requires reading drawings, fabricating components, and performing MIG/TIG/arc welding with a strong safety mindset. Trade qualification is valued; Q fever vaccination is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in metal fabrication, boilermaking and welding.
• Competency in MIG, TIG and arc welding.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong measuring, cutting, fitting and fabrication skills.
• Ability to work accurately and to specified requirements.
• Good problem-solving skills and safety commitment.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Willingness to undertake Q fever vaccination.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, plans and technical specifications.
• Mark out, measure and prepare metal components for fabrication.
• Cut, shape and form metal sections using hand and power tools.
• Fabricate and assemble metal components and replacement parts.
• Perform MIG, TIG and arc welding to join and repair metal components.
• Fit and install fabricated components and equipment.
• Fabricate, repair and maintain stainless steel processing equipment.
• Inspect welded work to meet specifications and quality standards.
• Finish components using grinding and finishing techniques.
• Assist with plant breakdowns, repairs and scheduled shutdowns.
• Maintain workshop equipment in safe condition.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, WHS and company requirements.
