Job summary

Uconnex Community Services is seeking an experienced Disability Support Worker with a strong focus on mental health to join our Bendigo region team. You will support participants with mental health challenges and complex needs, applying de-escalation strategies while maintaining safety and wellbeing.

The role involves person-centred support with daily activities, independent living skills, and community access.

Qualifications

• Experience in mental health and managing aggressive behaviours.
• Qualification in Disability Support, Mental Health or Community Services.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and use de-escalation strategies.
• Strong communication, patience and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide person-centred support to participants with mental health challenges and complex support needs.
• Support participants who may display aggressive or challenging behaviours, using appropriate de-escalation techniques.
• Recognise potential triggers and changes in behaviour and follow individual behaviour support plans and safety procedures.
• Assist with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation and household tasks.
• Provide emotional support and encouragement while promoting independence and wellbeing.
• Support community access, social activities, and daily routines.
• Maintain accurate documentation and report incidents or concerns in accordance with organisational procedures.
• Work collaboratively with Case Managers, Team Leaders, and other professionals to provide safe and consistent support.
