Job summary

HealthX is seeking experienced Medical/Surgical Ward and Theatre Registered Nurses for NSW-wide travel contracts. Earn up to AU$68.49 per hour plus super, penalties, and a AU$1,600 completion bonus.

Travel, accommodation and daily living allowance are provided, with 6–12 week contracts and potential extensions across metropolitan, regional, rural and coastal sites. Qualifications

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1).
• Minimum one year of recent medical, surgical or theatre nursing experience.
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage acute medical conditions and surgical needs.
• Experience in post-operative care, wound management and medication administration.
• Adaptability to new clinical environments and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver medical and surgical nursing care across wards and theatres.
• Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs and progress.
• Provide pre- and post-operative care, wound management and recovery monitoring.
• Administer medications and treatments per guidelines.
• Recognise deterioration and escalate promptly per policy.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing and allied health teams.
• Maintain accurate documentation per NSW Health policies.
• Support patient flow, discharge planning and handovers.
• Adapt to different hospitals and local procedures.

About the Role

Provide high-quality medical and surgical nursing care across hospitals throughout New South Wales. You will deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care to patients admitted for medical management, surgical procedures and post-operative recovery, working collaboratively with local clinical teams to support positive patient outcomes throughout their hospital stay.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive medical and surgical nursing care to patients with a range of acute and chronic conditions.
  
• Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs and evaluate clinical progress.
  
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care, including wound management and recovery monitoring.
  
• Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with clinical guidelines and hospital policies.
  
• Recognise and respond promptly to clinical deterioration using appropriate escalation pathways.
  
• Collaborate with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to support coordinated patient care.
  
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with NSW Health policies and procedures.
  
• Support safe patient flow, discharge planning, handovers and continuity of care.
  
• Adapt to different hospital environments, clinical teams and local procedures.

What you'll need

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1).

• Strong clinical assessment skills and confidence managing patients with acute medical conditions and surgical needs.
  
• Experience in post-operative care, wound management, medication administration and recognising clinical deterioration.
  
• Ability to adapt quickly to new clinical environments and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
