Job description

ABOUT ELEVEN, FLEISHMANHILLARD & WEBER SHANDWICK

Eleven, FleishmanHillard and Weber Shandwick are part of the Omnicom Oceania earned centre of excellence —three agency teams with different strengths, united by a belief in the power of ideas, stories and culture to make a meaningful impact.

The three agencies are co-located. This role works across all three.

Eleven is one of ANZ’s most awarded agencies, with work recognised across leading creative and communications awards.

FleishmanHillard and Weber Shandwick are part of global agency networks. That brings the opportunity to learn from colleagues around the world, draw on international perspectives and specialist expertise, and collaborate on ideas that can travel across markets.

As part of Omnicom Oceania, we bring together different disciplines and capabilities—from PR, social and creators to creative, media and production—to help brands engage people in relevant, surprising and memorable ways.

PURPOSE

We’re looking for a sharp, connected and highly proactive media specialist with a genuine instinct for news. You understand what earns attention in a crowded news cycle, what journalists and their audiences will care about, and how to turn a client’s priorities into a story with a credible, compelling reason to exist.

You know the news media landscape from the inside out—or have built deep, trusted relationships across it—and can move comfortably between print, digital, broadcast and emerging channels.

Working across a diverse portfolio of local and global B2B and B2C brands, you’ll shape and deliver high-quality stories that serve both client objectives and genuine audience interest. You’ll partner with senior colleagues, clients and client teams, bring energy and sound judgement to fast-moving opportunities, and help secure meaningful coverage in influential media.

You’re not sending pitches or releases and waiting for a reply. You’re across the news agenda, quick to spot an opening, confident picking up the phone, and persistent in making the right connections.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
News strategy and media delivery
  • Develop and deliver smart, news-led media strategies for key clients.
  • Find the news angle: turn business priorities, research, products and expertise into timely, relevant stories that matter to journalists and their audiences.
  • Track the news cycle and identify the right moments, formats and outlets for a story.
  • Write clear, persuasive media materials, including releases, tailored pitches, briefing documents, features and bylined articles.
  • Proactively pitch and follow through with journalists to secure quality coverage across print, online, broadcast and digital media.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with journalists, editors, producers and other influential media decision-makers, particularly across tier‑one outlets.
  • Respond thoughtfully and quickly to media enquiries, working with client teams and senior colleagues to provide accurate, useful information.
  • Bring composure, responsiveness and good judgement to time‑sensitive media opportunities.
  • Build positive, credible relationships with clients alongside senior team members.
  • Understand each client’s business, priorities and audiences, and connect communications activity to their objectives.
  • Deliver accurate, high-quality work on time, managing multiple briefs and competing deadlines.
  • Look for ways to strengthen outcomes and add value to client relationships.
Ideas and growth
  • Contribute to proactive story generation, brainstorms and campaign development.
  • Spot opportunities to connect client stories with relevant cultural moments, industry developments and the wider news agenda.
  • Support new business activity by bringing strong media thinking and practical earned‑media ideas.
  • Stay curious about changes in journalism, media platforms, culture and the industries our clients operate in.
  • Work generously and collaboratively with colleagues at every level.
  • Help foster a positive, inclusive and solutions‑focused team culture.
  • Share your knowledge and offer informal support to junior team members where appropriate.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • At least 6–8 years’ experience in journalism, publicity or a closely related role.
  • A strong instinct for what makes news, backed by the ability to turn that judgement into compelling, credible story angles.
  • A current, practical understanding of the news media landscape and how stories are commissioned, developed and published or broadcast.
  • A well‑established network of relevant media contacts, with trusted relationships across senior journalists, editors, producers or other key decision‑makers—particularly in tier‑one news media.
  • Evidence of securing meaningful coverage by pitching stories proactively and tailoring the approach to the outlet, journalist and audience.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills across a range of formats and audiences.
  • The confidence and energy to build relationships, make the approach, follow up and keep momentum moving.
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage several priorities at once.
  • A proactive, resourceful and solutions‑focused approach, with sound judgement and a willingness to keep learning.
WHAT WE’LL BRING

Through our global networks, you can also gain exposure to international perspectives and expertise, and learn from work happening in other markets. The scale of Omnicom Oceania creates further opportunities to collaborate with specialists across the wider communications and marketing mix. Benefits include:

  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Professional development programmes and access to learning resources.
  • Paid annual leave, personal leave and public holidays.
  • Parental leave and family‑friendly policies.
  • Cultural and social events that help build connection and creativity.
  • Potential mobility opportunities within the network.
  • A collaborative, inclusive and creatively ambitious workplace culture.
YOU’LL THRIVE HERE IF YOU’RE
  • Genuinely interested in news, journalism, media and culture—and always alert to what’s changing.
  • Curious about the story behind the brief and discerning about what will resonate beyond the client.
  • Connected, personable and confident engaging with media, clients and colleagues.
  • Energetic and decisive, while staying thoughtful, accurate and calm under pressure.
  • A collaborative team player who takes ownership and gets things moving.
  • Ready to grow your skills and progress into a more senior media role.
