Job summary

NEPEAN Longwall seeks a Mechanical Fitter to assemble, overhaul and repair underground mining equipment in a modern Kurri Kurri workshop. You will read drawings, perform fault finding, and support apprentices while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Fitter trade qualification or equivalent required.
• Legal rights to work in Australia.
• Experience in mining, heavy industry, manufacturing, or similar environments.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and disassembly of underground mining equipment and longwall components.
• Refurbishment and repair of underground mining equipment and components.
• Fault finding, maintenance and mechanical fitting activities.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
• Minor welding and related support tasks.
• Mentoring apprentices and demonstrating safe procedures.
• Maintaining workshop housekeeping and 5S standards.
• Contributing to a strong safety and quality culture.

The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the assembly, overhaul, refurbishment, maintenance, and repair of underground mining equipment and longwall components. Working within a highly skilled workshop team, your daily duties will include:

• Assembly and disassembly of capital and used underground mining materials handling equipment, including Roof Supports, AFCs and BSL overhauls
• Refurbishment and repair of underground mining equipment and components
• Fault finding, maintenance and mechanical fitting activities
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
• Minor welding and associated support tasks
• Assisting in the training and development of apprentices by demonstrating safe and correct work procedures
• Maintaining workshop housekeeping and 5S standards
• Contributing to a strong safety and quality culture

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Mechanical Fitter Trade Qualification or equivalent
• Legal rights to work in Australia
• Experience in mining, heavy industry, manufacturing, industrial maintenance, or similar environments
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Excellent work ethic and attention to detail

Highly Regarded

• Longwall or underground mining equipment experience
• Forklift Licence
• Overhead Crane Ticket
• Current Driver's Licence
• Experience working on Roof Supports, AFCs, BSLs or other mining materials handling equipment
