Job summary

FMS Group is seeking experienced and safety-focused Mechanical Fitters to join our team for an upcoming major shutdown at a mine site near Mt Thorley, NSW.

We require trade-qualified fitters with shovel experience in coal mining, dedicated to high-quality maintenance and safe, efficient delivery. This is a temporary shutdown in November/December 2026 at a coal mine site, with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner, or equivalent mechanical trade.
• Demonstrated shutdown and/or mining industry experience.
• Previous experience working on shovels in a coal mining environment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out shutdown maintenance and project works at a coal mine site near Mt Thorley, NSW.
• Perform maintenance, repairs, overhauls, and inspections on shovel equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and complete repairs and preventative maintenance tasks as required.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople, and the wider maintenance team to achieve shutdown targets and deadlines.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with site procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and contribute to a strong safety culture throughout the shutdown.

About the Role

FMS Group is seeking experienced and safety-focused Mechanical Fitters to join our team for an upcoming major shutdown at a mine site near Mt Thorley, NSW.

We are looking for trade-qualified Mechanical Fitters with experience working on shovels in a coal mining environment. The ideal candidates take pride in delivering high-quality maintenance work safely and efficiently, with a strong focus on quality workmanship and getting the job done right the first time.

This is a temporary shutdown opportunity, with work available during November/December 2026 for the duration of the shutdown. You’ll be joining a high-performing maintenance team, contributing to the safe and efficient delivery of shovel maintenance and repair works in a fast-paced mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out shutdown maintenance and project works at a coal mine site near Mt Thorley, NSW
• Perform maintenance, repairs, overhauls, and inspections on shovel equipment

What You'll Bring

• Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner, or equivalent mechanical trade
• Demonstrated shutdown and/or mining industry experience

• Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork
• Current Order 43 or 45 medical, as applicable to site requirements
• Ability to pass ongoing drug and alcohol testing
• Current Working at Heights, Confined Space, and Gas Test Atmosphere tickets
