Job summary

MCA Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a materials handling background to join our team in Thornton, NSW. The role focuses on design calculations and risk assessments for medium to high complexity projects.

You will support early design stages, shape design approaches, identify risks, and validate system concepts on on-site projects across Australia.

Qualifications

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a materials handling background based in Thornton, NSW. This role focuses on design calculations, and risk assessments of medium to high complexity level.

You’ll be supporting the early stages of several upcoming projects, helping to shape the design approach, identify engineering risks, and validate system concepts.

• Manufacturing winding systems
• Rising mains
• Conveyance design and manufacture
• Ore pass design and installation
• Passive mooring systems oil and gas
• FRP Projects

Responsibilities:

• Conduct investigative engineering for new or modified materials handling systems
• Develop conceptual layouts and models
• Assist in feasibility studies and early-stage design reviews
• Liaise with drafting and workshop teams on technical requirements
• Contribute to preliminary documentation, risk assessments, and scope development

About you:

• A Degree or Diploma in in Structural, Civil, Mechanical Engineering
• Proven experience in mechanical, civil, or electrical projects, with a strong preference for candidates who have held leadership roles or demonstrated extensive involvement in project control and document management.
• Experience in materials handling design (mining, bulk materials, conveyors, etc.)
• Skilled in modelling and engineering calculations
• Strong experience in concept design, feasibility studies, and investigative engineering
• Ability to read and interpret (multi-disciplinary) technical documents and plans
• Familiar with relevant Australian and Industry Standards.
• Team player and able to develop and foster constructive relationships.
• A can-do attitude with the drive to succeed.
• Ability to work autonomously when required.
• High-level of attention to detail
• Ability to work on a mine site against a 2-1 roster.
