Job summary

AECOM's Water Infrastructure group is seeking a Director, Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design delivery across major water and wastewater projects in Australia. The role focuses on technical excellence, governance, and client satisfaction while mentoring engineers and designers to strengthen the talent pipeline.

Based in Sydney or Newcastle with hybrid work options, the candidate will collaborate across business lines, contribute to strategic decisions, and engage diverse stakeholders

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (CPEng highly regarded).
Extensive mechanical design experience in water and/or wastewater projects in a dynamic consulting/design environment.
Proven ability to lead complex projects and multidisciplinary teams with strong commercial acumen.

Responsibilities

Lead and review mechanical design delivery across major water, wastewater, and conveyance projects.
Ensure technical quality, safety, governance, and client satisfaction.
Mentor engineers and designers, growing the talent pipeline while maintaining technical excellence.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients across sectors.
