Job summary

ProFound People Pty Ltd in Perth seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to design heavy equipment and assemblies on a permanent basis. You will develop 3D models, create detailed drawings and work with fabrication teams to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years’ experience in Mechanical Design Engineering or similar.
• Experience in heavy equipment, mining, industrial or manufacturing sectors.
• Proficient with 3D CAD, SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Ability to review designs and drive manufacturability.
• Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and BOMs.

Responsibilities

SALARY - $120,000 - $140,000 per annum, dependent on experience

TYPE – Permanent

LOCATION – Perth, WA

My client is an established engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke heavy equipment. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Perth on a permanent basis.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

• At least 2 years’ experience in Mechanical Design Engineering or a similar role
• Previous experience in mechanical design within the heavy equipment, mining, industrial or manufacturing industries
• Experience designing heavy-duty machinery, transport equipment or mechanical assemblies
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Proficient with 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks, Inventor or similar
• Experience designing fabricated components, sheet metal and structural steel
• Good understanding of mechanical design principles, materials and manufacturing processes
• Experience producing detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings
• Understanding of fabrication, assembly and design for manufacture
• Experience taking designs from concept through to production
• Ability to review designs, solve technical problems and implement design improvements
• Experience working closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams
• Strong communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a small team

The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

• Developing mechanical designs for heavy equipment and associated components
• Producing detailed 3D models, assemblies and engineering drawings
• Designing components and mechanical assemblies for bespoke equipment
• Reviewing designs to ensure accuracy, quality and manufacturability
• Working closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams to resolve technical issues
• Liaising with suppliers and external manufacturing providers
• Maintaining engineering documentation, drawings and BOMs
• Supporting prototype builds, testing and design validation
• Identifying opportunities for design improvements and manufacturing efficiencies
• Working across a variety of bespoke engineering projects
• Taking ownership of design tasks and seeing projects through to completion
