Job summary

ProFound People Pty Ltd in Brisbane is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis. You will design machinery and heavy equipment using 3D CAD, develop concepts, and produce detailed drawings for production.

The role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least two years’ experience, with strong hands-on skills in fabrication, testing, and prototyping. Brisbane-based position with project variety.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
• At least 2 years of experience in a mechanical design role.
• Strong 3D CAD skills (Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
• Experience designing machinery/heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

SALARY - $90,000 - $120,000 per annum, dependent on experience

TYPE – Permanent

LOCATION – Brisbane, QLD

My client specialises in the design and manufacture of bespoke machinery and heavy equipment. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Brisbane on a permanent basis.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

• At least 2 years of experience in a similar Mechanical Design Engineering position
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Strong experience using 3D CAD, ideally Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360 etc.
• Previous experience designing machinery, heavy equipment, industrial equipment or similar
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, fabrication and manufacturing processes
• Experience designing with structural steel, sheet metal, machined components and fabricated parts
• Strong practical engineering skills including hand calculations, verification, validation, testing and prototyping
• Experience designing mechanical systems and equipment from concept through to production
• Good understanding of design for manufacture and assembly
• Able to manage projects and work to deadlines and budgets
• Able to maintain technical documentation and BOMs
• Able to work well individually as well as part of a team

The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

• Designing machinery and heavy equipment using 3D CAD
• Developing concepts and producing detailed manufacturing drawings
• Managing designs through the full lifecycle from concept to production
• Designing mechanical components, assemblies and fabricated structures
• Working closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are practical and fit for purpose
• Liaising with manufacturing providers and suppliers
• Supporting prototyping, testing, assembly and commissioning
• Creating and maintaining technical documentation and project reports
• Updating 3D models, drawings and design documentation
• Inputting parts into the MRP system and creating BOMs
• Checking drawings and designs for accuracy and sign-off
• Working in a small, multi-disciplinary team across a variety of machinery and equipment projects
