Job summary

Cowra Shire Council is seeking an experienced Mechanic to join our Infrastructure and Operations team in Cowra, NSW. In this hands-on role, you will service, diagnose, maintain and repair the Council’s diverse fleet, including heavy vehicles, light vehicles, plant and equipment, ensuring safe and roadworthy operation.

You will diagnose faults across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, and liaise with internal staff and external

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification as Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated fleet maintenance and repair experience including hydraulic, electrical, and fabrication work.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Current MR/HR driver’s licence (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Service, diagnose, maintain and repair Cowra Shire Council’s fleet including heavy vehicles, light vehicles, plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical issues; perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance to keep assets safe and roadworthy.
  • Coordinate with internal staff and external suppliers to source parts, schedule servicing and ensure timely repairs.

About the Opportunity

Cowra Council is seeking an experienced Mechanic to join our Infrastructure and Operations team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the servicing, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of Council’s diverse fleet including heavy vehicles, light vehicles, plant, small plant and equipment.

You will diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and engine faults, carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, and ensure Council’s vehicles, plant and equipment are safe, roadworthy, compliant and fit for purpose.

Working as part of a skilled and supportive team, you will contribute to the reliable day-to-day operation of Council’s fleet. You will also work with internal staff and external suppliers where required to support effective servicing, repairs and parts procurement.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge and practical experience including;

  • Trade qualification as a Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in fleet maintenance and repairs, including hydraulic, electrical, and fabrication work.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Current MR/HR driver’s licence (or willingness to obtain).
