Job summary

MCS Civil is seeking an experienced MC Float Driver to move heavy civil plant and equipment between projects. The role is based in the Newcastle/Maitland region with travel to regional NSW, QLD and SA as required.

Ideal candidates will have proven experience floating heavy civil machinery, an MC licence, and the ability to manage loads up to 60T (80T where required). The position offers local and regional transport, with potential DIDO and away-from-home opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience floating heavy civil machinery is mandatory.
• Experience transporting equipment in the 10T-60T range and up to 80T is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate MC trucks to transport heavy machinery, plant and equipment.
• Float and transport civil construction equipment up to 60T (80T with exemptions).
• Load, secure, transport and unload machinery using appropriate load restraint methods.
• Safely manoeuvre and position heavy equipment for loading and unloading.
• Conduct pre-start and post-trip inspections of vehicles, trailers and equipment.
• Ensure loads comply with road transport, mass, dimension and load restraint requirements.
• Complete delivery documentation, permits and logbooks accurately.
• Communicate with project managers, supervisors, operators and site crews.

MCS Civil is a privately owned Australian civil contractor delivering specialist civil works across the energy, rail, transport and infrastructure sectors.

With a growing pipeline of major infrastructure and energy projects across Regional NSW, Brisbane and South Australia, we are seeking an experienced MC Float Driver to join our team and support the movement of heavy civil plant and equipment between projects.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced MC Float Driver based in or around Newcastle, Maitland or the Hunter Region, with proven experience transporting and floating heavy civil construction equipment.

This is a hands-on transport role suited to a driver who understands the requirements of moving large and valuable machinery safely between project sites.

Experience floating heavy civil equipment is mandatory, with a preference for up to 80 Tonne heavy float experience.

The role will involve local and regional transport, with opportunities for DIDO and working away from home depending on project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate MC Trucks to transport heavy machinery, plant and equipment
• Float and transport civil construction equipment, ranging from 10T-60T, with exceptions of 80T
• Load, secure, transport and unload machinery using appropriate load restraint methods
• Safely manoeuvre and position heavy equipment for loading and unloading
• Conduct pre-start and post-trip inspections of vehicles, trailers and equipment
• Ensure loads comply with applicable road transport, mass, dimension and load restraint requirements
• Complete delivery documentation, permits and logbooks accurately
• Communicate effectively with project managers, supervisors, operators and site crews
• Maintain vehicles, trailers and transport equipment to a high standard
• Report defects, damage, incidents and hazards promptly
• Follow site-specific safety, fatigue management and traffic management requirements
• Work safely around heavy machinery and active civil construction sites

About You

• Current MC driver's licence
• Demonstrated experience floating heavy civil machinery
• Experience transporting equipment in the 10T-60T range
• Experience with oversize or heavy haulage
• Experience with excavators, piling rigs, cranes and other large civil plant
• Strong understanding of load restraint, mass and dimension requirements
• Strong knowledge of road transport regulations
• Current White Card
• Strong understanding of fatigue management and road safety
• Ability to complete pre-starts and vehicle checks
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early starts, weekends and longer driving days when required
• Ability and willingness to work DIDO and away from home
• Reliable, punctual and professional attitude
• Strong commitment to safety and care of equipment
• Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening

Highly Regarded

• Previous experience transporting up to 80T heavy civil equipment
• Experience working on major civil, infrastructure, mining or energy projects
• Previous DIDO/FIFO or remote project experience
• Relevant heavy haulage, load restraint or transport qualifications
• Knowledge of regional NSW project routes
