Job summary

Svitzer Australia Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Tug Master to join our West Coast team around Fremantle, delivering training and maintaining high safety and operational standards for marine operations. This is a full-time, permanent role focused on developing operational capability and mentoring operators across the fleet.

You will provide marine expertise, run simulation-based courses, review incidents, and liaise with clients and port authorities to ensure compliant and efficient

Qualifications

  • Master 45m Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalent.
  • Experience as Tug Master operating omnidirectional tugs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collect and analyse data, identify trends and make recommendations.
  • Proven time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Provide marine expertise and support for the West Coast operating region.
  • Delivery of Master’s training in specific locations, coordinating with Port teams.
  • Provide dedicated training and mentoring for both new and existing operators to achieve competencies.
  • Develop, conduct and evaluate simulation-based courses for training scenarios.
  • Review on-water marine incidents that may require training improvements and contribute to investigations.
  • Provide operational marine expertise when engaging with clients, port authorities and other external stakeholders.

How You’ll Make a Difference
  • Provide marine expertise and support for the Svitzer Australia (particularly West Coast) operating region.
  • Delivery of Master’s training in specific locations, ensuring that all training plans are implemented in coordination with Port teams.
  • Provide dedicated training and mentoring for both new and existing operators to achieve required competencies and skill levels.
  • Develop, conduct and evaluate simulation-based courses with emphasis on creating and coordinating life‑like scenarios and props for educational purposes.
  • Review of on water marine incidents that may require training improvements and contributing to Marine Standards investigations regarding operational incidents.
  • Provide operational marine expertise when engaging with clients, port authorities and other external stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring To
  • Prior experience as a Tug Master operating omnidirectional tugs.
  • Minimum Master 45m Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalent.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively convey information to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to collect and analyse data, identify trends and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise work.
  • Proven computer literacy with competency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
