Job summary

SeaLink Northern Territory, Darwin, seeks a Marine Maintenance Technician for permanent full-time work. You’ll perform routine and breakdown maintenance, assist with higher-level tasks, and support on-board engineers, skippers and crew on our vessels and at jetties and offices.

The role covers maintenance across multiple vessels with opportunities for training and development within a growing, award-winning tourism and transport operator. A strong safety culture and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication in English.
• Willingness to work outside regular hours to meet peak deadlines.
• Experience with servicing and maintaining commercial vessels.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine planned maintenance on vessels.
• Attend to breakdown maintenance and assist with higher-level maintenance.
• Support on-board engineers, skippers and crew as needed.
• Complete ad-hoc duties on vessels and around jetties/ offices.
• Collaborate with HSEQ and Crewing to maintain high performance.

About the Role

The maintenance part of the job is exactly what it sounds like. You will conduct routine planned maintenance, attend to breakdown maintenance, assist contractors in higher level maintenance, support on-board engineers, skippers and crew when required, and attend to an array of ad-hoc duties, both on our vessels and around the jetties/offices.

The Marine Maintenance Technician will be responsible for technical duties of 3 vessels The role forms an integral part of a professional maritime support team for the Operational business; working alongside resources in HSEQ and Crewing to deliver best in class performance consistently.

The systems and machinery you will gain exposure to include, but not limited to:

• 3 vessels ranging length
• Heavy diesel machinery - 4-to-6-cylinder high speed Diesel engines
• Auxiliary systems (Air-conditioning, Refrigeration, Pumps, Hydraulics and Sullage Systems)
• Electrical and instrumentation systems
• Dry dock works (propeller, shaft work)
• Hull structures and fittings
• Ad-Hoc general handyman tasks required on day-to-day basis

Qualifications:

• Certificate in Mechanical Trade (Diesel fitter, electrical, refrigeration or plumbing) - preferred
• Work within confined spaces ticket (preferred)
• Working at Heights ticket (preferred)
• Senior First Aid/Advanced Resuscitation (preferred)
• Open Drivers Licence
• Marine Engine Drivers Ticket - not essential

Experience:

• Welding, Painting, Plumbing experience preferred
• Electrical fault-finding experience
• Basic understanding of workshop practices including OH&S and housekeeping
• Sound knowledge of WH&S obligations relevant to the marine/transport industry
• Proficient in written and spoken English
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Computer knowledge, proficiency with MEX fleet management software or similar an advantage
• Experienced in servicing, periodical inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to commercial vessels
• The ability to be proactive and work in a dynamic team environment is crucial to the success of this role.
