Job summary

Cochlear Limited in Sydney is seeking a Manufacturing Support & Automation Engineer based at Macquarie University or Lane Cove to provide engineering support during the manufacture of Cochlear implants and external accessories. You will act as the first point of contact for yield, quality and throughput issues, develop solutions to production problems and drive automation enhancements.

• Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience supporting manufacturing operations in a production environment.
• Experience with manufacturing equipment, process automation, or automation-related engineering projects.
• Experience working within manufacturing quality systems and processes.
• Experience in implementing continuous improvement projects.

Responsibilities

• Provides the first point of contact for Manufacturing on yield quality and throughput issues.
• Provides solutions to identified production problems.
• Analyses manufacturing rejects and identifies root causes of rejects.
• Ensures non-conformances are processed accurately and effectively.

The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Support & Automation Engineer based in either Macquarie University or Lane Cove. In this role, the successful candidate will play an essential role in providing engineering support during the manufacture of the cochlear implant and external accessories. This is a fantastic opportunity to utilise your problem‑solving skills as you provide solutions to production problems, act as a key contact for Manufacturing on yield and quality and support the implementation and optimisation of automated manufacturing equipment and processes.

Responsibilities

• Provides the first point of contact for Manufacturing on yield quality and throughput issues
• Provides solutions to identified production problems
• Analyses Manufacturing rejects as required to reclaim where possible, identify, and rectify root causes of rejects
• Ensures non-conformances are processed accurately and effectively
• Ensures adherence and compliance to the Quality Systems and relevant regulatory bodies
• Identifies opportunities for safety, quality and cost improvements on the manufacturing lines
• Executes root cause investigations and documents reports with relevant corrective action
• Supports the implementation, optimisation and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing equipment and processes

To add value to Cochlear in this role, you’ll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Essential Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience supporting manufacturing operations in a production environment
• Experience with manufacturing equipment, process automation, or automation‑related engineering projects
• Experience working within manufacturing quality systems and processes
• Experience in implementing continuous improvement projects
• Ability to work in Macquarie University and Lane Cove
• Preferable: Experience with vision inspection systems, machine vision or vision recognition technologies
• Preferable: Experience with collaborative robotics (cobots), robotics, automated assembly or automated inspection systems
• Preferable: Experience integrating software, controls, or data‑driven solutions into manufacturing equipment and processes
• Preferable: Experience with AI‑enabled manufacturing, inspection, or machine‑learning applications
• Preferable: Experience in a highly regulated industry
• Preferable: Experience in Lean methodology.
• Preferable: Experience in laser welding, moulding, or manual assembly is highly desirable
