Job summary

The University of Melbourne is seeking a Faculty risk expert to lead enterprise risk, compliance and business continuity across MDHS as the Faculty’s expert advisor. You will shape practical frameworks, uplift risk capability, and support informed decision making for diverse stakeholders, while enjoying autonomy within a new, integrated team across complex clinical and academic environments.

• Demonstrated experience in enterprise risk management within large, complex organisations.
• Demonstrated understanding of ISO 31000 Risk Management Standard and related frameworks.
• Translate policy and governance requirements into user-focused processes and tools.
• Experience supporting organisational risk governance, risk reporting and assurance activities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across diverse groups.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a matrix environment.

• Develop risk registers, reporting and insights using ERMS to inform MDHS leadership and governance forums.
• Build stakeholder relationships and drive engagement, training and communication on risk and compliance.
• Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives to simplify processes and integrate risk with planning and performance.

Role type: Full-time; Continuing Faculty: Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Salary: UOM 8 - $125,191 - $135,504 p.a. plus 17% super.

What you will deliver:

Lead implementation and continuous improvement of MDHS organizational and enterprise risk, compliance and business continuity frameworks.

Support Schools and teams to identify, assess, treat and monitor diverse strategic, operational and partnership risks.

Develop risk registers, reporting and insights using ERMS to inform MDHS leadership and governance forums.

Build strong stakeholder relationships and networks, driving engagement, training and communication on risk and compliance.

Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives to simplify processes and integrate risk with planning and performance.

You may be a great fit if you:

• Hold a relevant tertiary qualification and substantial experience in enterprise risk within large, complex organisations.
• Have demonstrated experience in strategic, operational, research, education, clinical partnership, compliance and reputational risk management.
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of ISO 31000 and practical application of recognised risk management frameworks.
• Translate policy and governance requirements into user-focused processes, guidance and tools that uplift risk capability.
• Excel at stakeholder engagement, building influence across diverse academic, professional and clinical partner groups.
• Manage competing priorities in a matrix environment, applying strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Use risk, compliance and reporting systems confidently, ideally with experience in higher education or regulated environments.

1. Demonstrated experience in enterprise risk management within a large, complex organisation, including risk identification, assessment, treatment, monitoring and reporting using recognised risk management frameworks.
2. Demonstrated understanding of ISO 31000 Risk Management Standard, organisational, strategic and enterprise risk management principles, frameworks and methodologies and their practical application in operational environments.
3. Proven ability to translate policy and frameworks into practical, user-focused processes and guidance.
4. Demonstrated experience supporting organisational risk governance, risk reporting and risk assurance activities.
5. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence across a diverse organisation.
6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a matrix environment and manage competing priorities.
